reflection – Page 2 – Gwyn’s Thoughts

What did I learn

I think I learned a lot about how multimedia can be used to tell stories. I like to write horror short stories in my free time but I have not really ventured out beyond the written word. I really enjoyed getting the chance to tell stories not just with my words but enhanced with videos, pictures, and sound.

What was hard

As much as I enjoyed getting to create multimedia content I also often had trouble trying to find additional media that would complement my stories and not be disruptive to reading the text. I definitely think this is something I should focus on improving at.

What was easy

I think that the writing was the easiest part. I write a lot based off of prompts so this aspect was very familiar to me. I do think the portion of creating images did add a new and engaging aspect to this but overall it was a familiar experience. I think that I might have written more had I had the time.

what was frustrating

I had some difficulties with WordPress tabs crashing and progress being lost. This issue resolved when I switched from safari to chrome but it was still a major inconvenience. luckily I know about this now so I should not have trouble with it in the future.

What did I enjoy

I really enjoy writing based on prompts and this added cool and new ways to do that. I think even after this class ends I will continue posting as I am really enjoying the experience. I think having to think about incorporating different types of media stretches a new writing muscle in the brain and lets you tell stories in ways you could not before.

Conclusion

I really liked this unit and I think it has taught me a lot about looking for the story behind the photo. I think this will help me pursue my own creative pursuits with renewed passion and a new perspective. I particularly liked the video on visual literacy and I think it gave me a new way of interacting with media that I had not thought of before. I also think that needing to write and create at a faster pace than I normally do drove me to think of things I would not have before.
